Sonrisa, villa rental with a view

This villa rental has three master suites with full baths open to ocean and jungle scenery. Unforgettable views to endless and unspoiled beach Playa Tortugas and the estuary. There is a 4th room that has two single pullout beds. Like a Caribbean island, the facing palm tree grove with bordering beach appears as if it were in a coffee table photography book.

Wake up to the sound of waves gentling crashing beneath you and shorebirds gracefully flying over the mangrove canals. This tropical Mexico villa rental comes with a private housekeeper. She will cook three meals a day if you take our meal plan (all inclusive except for wine and liquor). She is more than happy also to grill up a fresh catch should you like to head out fishing in the early morning hours.

Reviews

Paradise Found!

Not sure reviews or pictures do justice to the property? Casita is stunning, master has best sunrise views, patio looks down 17km of deserted beach, house opens up to let all the breezes flow. Perla cooks great authentic Mexican food, Wendy keeps everyone organized and looks after the details. All you have to do is eat, relax, walk the beach, lay by the pool and repeat.

This is the best of non-resort vacationing. No crowds, no beach peddlers and you have to be willing to commit to entertaining yourselves. Countryside is real Mexico with every fruit and vegetable being grown you can think of. True farm to table with a little spice…

Bring cards, sandals, Yahtzee, a few good books and a cell plan.
Have been to every resort area in Mexico and will never go to another, off the beaten path to spots like this was a much better vacation for us.

My measure of a vacation is always would you go to same place twice, this is one of the few the answer is yes!

Paradise!

Michel and Shannon, Our stay at Casa Sonrisa really was a glimpse of paradise! The grounds were gorgeous, the view was magnificent, the ocean and the beach were delightful…warm water, perfect boogie boarding waves, sandy bottom (no rocks/no urchins), and the pool was great for the kids…a little chilly for me.

Your home was just right for us….Great towels/bedding, comfortable sitting arrangements and of course, Perla and her crew were the best. They prepared delicious, healthy meals for us and kept everything neat and tidy. They really made my vacation so restful! Not having to think about food preparation does a mother’s heart good!

My only complaints would be that the kayak had a leak, and the paddle was broken and the noseeums! We’d heard about them but didn’t take a precautions…and we all itched like crazy! Thank you for our Merry Christmas vacation!

Beautiful home in remote Mexico

We (my husband and I and three teens + my mother) stayed at this home June 28-July2. Shannon was extremely helpful with all the information she gave us before we headed up to Punta El Custodio from Sayulita. The house is gorgeous. It is beautifully decorated and the kitchen came stocked with all the appliances we needed. All of the bedding and linens were very nice, beds were comfortable.

We were there for the surf and it unfortunately was not quite working the first two days but the 3rd and 4th days we got some decent waves. We only saw other people surfing on the weekend. Perla our housekeeper was a pleasant surprise. We paid her to prepare two meals for us + homemade tortillas. We ended up getting 4 meals out of what she prepared for us.

It was all excellent. The community pool was gorgeous and the dipping pool in the backyard was used a lot. It was definitely hot during the time we were there but we were in the water a lot so that helped. We all really enjoyed this home.

Absolutely Perfect

Our family of five (3 teenagers) had a wonderful time staying here. We have also stayed in Sayulita and other locations in Nayarit, but this is my our new favorite. Be aware you are not in the commercial/tourist district, which made it great for us. Quick easy walk to the village for supplies or a meal at a restaurant. We did rent a car since we are familiar with the area and wanted to travel to Las Varas, Chacala and Guayabitos. As with most other reviews, we would definitely rent this gem again.

While the wifi was inconsistent, I found that to be a PLUS. We went to this location to unplug and it worked. We boogie boarded, read books and listened to Juan Gabriel. The perfect vacation.

My kids are teenagers so it did not impact us. However, I might be a little concerned with the layout if my children were under five. Not that the place is unsafe, just that the rear patio area has lots of stairs and some areas with minimum railing may be a concern for some parents with younger children.

Great place to just get away in solitude

We (a group of 6 friends) were the only ones around during most of the week we stayed at El Custudio in Villa Sonrista. It is BEAUTIFUL there. PARADISE. I plan to go back. OK, now for the minor negatives (the positives in the view and location outweighed the negatives). WIFI might as well not exist it is so slow or sporadic. The modem is new, the location is just so remote. I gave up trying to stream anything on my chromebook. Because it is all open indoor/outdoor living, after the midnight rains, the bity bugs come out, so bring the bug spray. We left with a bunch of chigger bites, but honestly, made me feel like a kid again back on the farm.

The maid, Perla, is wonderful, stays out of the way and is constantly tidying up. The gardner is a sweetheart. If you aren’t used to a house staff, it might at first feel unsettling but they are professionals. Walk or drive down to the little village of Platanitos and get to know the locals. On weekends, families come out and it is just such a great setting. The local fish and food are good at the restaurant with the “coca-cola” logo painted on it (under the hotel). As far as ElCustudios, the staff (Lorena and all) are helpful and wonderful and keep you supplied in some food and beverages – they kept a running total going for us and arranged for local fish to be brought to the house.

Lorena also arranged for Albero to take us on an outing to an amazing hidden waterfall in El Cora. That was an amazing memory. If you stay at this place, do that outing!! Sonrista is amazing. We slept in the cabana and enjoyed the sound of the ocean every night. The villa dipping pool is nice, but we went to the community pool more often because of the amazing views. Like I said, most of the time, we were the only one in any of the villas. More people came after the middle of our stay and they were wonderful to visit with.

If you go to see the turtles be released across the estuary, be sure to bring your money. We forgot and had to plan to return. The estuary isn’t all that easy to cross if you are old, but there is a kyak for use. Others just waited for low tide and walked across. I will return here again. It is on my all time top 10 for great vacation spots. Shannon, if you EVER think of selling this place, CALL ME FIRST!!

Just what we needed

My husband and I vacationed here with 2 other couples and had a great time- very relaxing. We enjoyed the beach and the estuary daily. Lizbeth was wonderful and we loved her meals- she had dinner ready and waiting for us every day except Sunday. Lance was very helpful to us as well. We took a couple excursions, one to San Blas and one to the waterfall but we liked being at the house best.

The last 2 days in the lower room, Sunday and Monday, our friends had to take cold showers or use our shower and deal with a toilet that flushed unreliably because I guess no one was available at that point to fix it. We stayed 10 days which was just right or us. The views are gorgeous! So many sunrises and sunsets. The gate house store room was very convenient and we bought food, beer and tequila there. We also borrowed body boards and had fun boogie boarding in the afternoons. We all agreed that we would like to come again!
